Hundreds of mourners gathered at the outskirts of Machakos town on Tuesday 18th June 2013,for the funeral service of Grace Wambua.
Ms. Wambua was fatally attacked by her farm worker on Saturday 8th June 2013 in Machakos, on the outskirts of Nairobi. The assailant fled and is still at large. She served as the Manager of the ACK guesthouse Nairobi for over 15 years and had envisioned the ongoing expansion of the facility.
Speaking at the service, Archbishop Dr. Eliud Wabukala described her as a focused leader who was dedicated to service with diligence. "I counted on her as one of the main pillars in the hospitality ministry. Whenever I delegated an assignment to her, I counted it done," he said.
Messages of condolences were recieved from various Anglican Provinces in the world and other para-church organizations which had interacted with her. Eulogized as the Grace of Africa, the day was filled with praises for her attention to detail, integrity and excellence. "She always recieved the guests with such hospitality that we felt at home at the guest house," reminisced one of the guests.
Relatives and friends proposed an annual 'Integrity and Excellence Awards' as well as a building in memory of her devotion to ministry and admirable character. She inpsired many with her passion for soul winning, nature, environmental conservation, agriculture, interior design and hospitality. "She always had something to share whenever she visited, and though a disciplinarian, she was a role model to all of us," recalls one of the nieces.
