Title: When the River Stands Still
Scripture: Joshua 3:7-17
“And the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground."
Joshua 3:17
“When you are at your wits’ end, you will find God lives there."
C.H. Spurgeon
Devotion:
The Jordan River was at flood stage, a rushing, intimidating obstacle between Israel and the Promised Land. God told Joshua He would exalt him before the people, but that miracle would only come when the priests’ feet touched the water.
Imagine the scene: the priests carrying the ark, stepping toward a raging river, not knowing if the waters would stop until they obeyed. And then, as their feet touched the edge, the current halted upstream. The river stood still. The ground turned dry. And an entire nation walked into their future because a few men took God at His word.
Faith is often a wet-feet business. The miracle rarely comes before the step. Whether it’s facing a personal challenge, leading others, or standing for truth, God calls us to move forward before we see the water part. His presence, represented by the ark, always goes ahead of us, and His power turns impossible barriers into dry ground.
Personal Prayer:
Lord, help me to trust You enough to step into the waters before they part. Give me courage to lead, faith to obey, and peace to know You are already ahead of me. Amen.
Benediction:
Go forth with feet ready to step where God sends you, eyes fixed on His presence, and a heart assured that every river will stand still before His will.
